A Hundred-Day Photoshoot Stolen by Cats | Shanghai Documentary Session

I was invited for an at-home documentary session for a hundred-day-old baby. The mother mentioned in advance that they had two cats 🐈 and hoped to include them in the photos.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a beautifully decorated French-style home. The living room featured a full-wall cat climbing structure, and even the built-in TV cabinet was half-dedicated to the cats. As a cat owner myself, I was deeply touched. During the shoot, the more outgoing ginger cat roamed around the scene, allowing me to capture some delightful moments.

The session went smoothly. Since it was a documentary-style shoot, I naturally captured everyday moments like bath time, feeding, and playful interactions. The baby was incredibly sweet and well-behaved. At one point, after falling asleep, her mom gently woke her up, and instead of crying, she opened her eyes and gave the sweetest smile. By the end of the session, I realized I hadn’t captured a single crying moment—what a naturally calm and happy baby!

Just as I was about to leave, I spontaneously captured a tender moment—Dad, looking a bit tired, resting on the balcony chair with his baby in his arms, eyes closed but smiling. Meanwhile, Mom was nearby, gently playing with the baby. It was such a heartwarming scene.

The more I shoot, the more I realize that my favorite photos are always the unplanned, spontaneous captures. As a photographer, letting go of rigid templates and structured poses—embracing observation and emotion instead—often leads to the most touching and meaningful images.
